Although this post is not glamorous in any way I felt the need to post about it, since I have been following it closely since the news broke. Being a frequent flyer myself, which I know the majority of you divas are, these stories become close to the heart. I was deeply saddened to hear the news of the disappearance of Air France Flight 447 and send all my strength and well wishes the families and friends of the “missing” with 228 people aboard coming from 29 different countries this has impacted many families.
Though there lies much uncertainty to what happened and whether they will ever be able to find out what brought Flight 447 down, the theories swirling around at the moment lead us to the unknown. Was it the bad weather known to be in that area over the Atlantic? Was it a possible act of terrorism as an Air France flight heading to Paris had received a bomb threat earlier on May 27th? Was it a large meteor that hit the plane? Was it a fluke accident and failure of the plane itself? No one knows, but we do know that all three pilots on board did not issue a mayday call before the plane hit the water, and that a dozen automatic signals were sent from the plane stating loss of electrical power and cabin pressure.
Chances of finding survivors is zero due to the time since the disappearance and exact location of where the plane crashed. Crews are now dealing with the rough waters and weather to try and solve this mystery. The waters in that area of the Atlantic are some of the deepest in the ocean dropping to a depth of approximately 98,000 feet.
In their efforts of some answers rescue crews and officials hope to be able to recover the plane’s black box, which should be able to shed some light on what happened or what went wrong on Flight 447.
This is believed to be the second largest aviation disaster killing 228 people, with the largest being Swiss Air Flight 111 which crashed near Peggy’s Cove in 1998 killing all 229 people on board.
In memory of all those lost in aviation accidents, let’s hope they can find some answers to further eliminate anymore tragic disasters and give those of the lost ones some peace and closure. My deepest sympathies go out to everybody who has been affected.
